Thanks for checkin' out the "Drum Lessons" page! I've been a professional drummer and drum teacher in the Chicago area for many years. I teach private drum lessons to students of all ages on the North Shore at my home in east Northbrook, and I still play in many different kinds of bands for lots of different occasions... weddings, Bar-Mitzvahs, parties, and nightclubs, too! I grew up in Wilmette and graduated from New Trier West High School in 1973. I studied percussion at Southern Illinois University and at the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri in Kansas City. MUSIC LESSONS SHOULD BE FUN!!! If lessons aren't fun, than what's the use?! Kids have too much going on to be involved in an activity that they don't enjoy. So I make sure lessons are fun as we learn. My lessons are a combination of learning drumming technique and learning to read music, but also listening and playing to recordings and trying to figure out what the drummer is doing and why... what's the drummer's job in the band? I encourage my students to bring in their iPods or CDs that they like to listen to. I try to cater lessons to each student's individual needs... whether they are playing in school bands, rock bands, or are adults just wanting to have some fun!
